Do You Really Care?

Poor Vs Rich
Choice of Consumption
What is behind your consumption pattern? Is it your culture, status or income to decide your everyday shopping? People are habituated to buy the same flavour that his/her parents used to provide in their early-childhood. For instance, if you used to have banana flavoured chewing gum in your childhood, you may normally buy it in the later stages of your life. But what if the matters come to you as a choice when you have three options like low, high and medium prices, what do you consider? You definitely think about the quality, the price and definitely your status or what the society, the neighbour, or colleague will think about it? Sometimes, how do you feel when you go out of a shop without having a big brand logo on the shopping bag as you used to have? Does every one of us really control our own choice of consumptions, then who controls? It is the big name/logo that has taken away our decision making capabilities that we never even think of it.

Food Wastage
A majority people of the world do not have access to regular food, proper shelter or pure drinking water. We usually forget that our resources are limited and we are exploiting those at the highest limit. I have a very simple observation that whenever you see people of overweight, you will see, in the most of the cases, either they have been eating something or carrying food with them. You have money does not mean that you will eat more than 2000cals/per day. Then you are killing yourself being overweight as well as depriving somebody else for not having it. The Guardian, UK, reported in January 2013 that almost half of the world’s foods are thrown away. How pity is that when people in the same planet are starving to death! Is it not amazing that our consciousness can eradicate the food crisis in the world?

Poor Vs Rich
Who is responsible for being a poor person in the planet? Some people have born in a rich family or having inheritance of huge wealth but others are not. Some might have been struggling their whole life to gain their desire living or starving to death. Poor are becoming poorer everyday as a study shows that only 1% people hold 40% of the world’s wealth and they are becoming stronger and stronger. Should not the wealthy people look back generously to the poor as their wealth is the exploitation of poor in one way or another? Wealthy people do the philanthropy too but it has been used as one of their marketing tools of the business. There are some exceptions, like Bill Gates is doing incredible things to eradicate Polio for ever from the planet in next few years. In my point of view this is one of the pilot projects where goal is fixed and achievement is monitored from top to bottom. Not like other projects that philanthropist has disbursed money and having some promotion but forgot to see the real out of the effort. Neither every wealthy nor every one of us like Bill Gates in terms possession or passion but if we bring out our hand from our pocket and help our neighbours or even guide them to the right direction, they will shine one day. More importantly, it is not the richest people who will keep the world in the right shape; it is the working/middle class who needs to work hard to keep the harmony among poor and rich otherwise the world is going to be the worst place to live in.

Tahrir Square, Egypt to Shahbagh Square, Bangladesh

Egypt to Bangladesh

It’s been long time that western world has been dominating Middle East through different methods and techniques.  Although western economic goals have been successful, the political ambitions were stumble in time to time. They were so desperate to achieve those political ambitions that they toppled Mr Saddam, once a pioneer allies of west in Middle East, but found a new enemy there as well as ethnic conflict erupted.

Western did not have any problem with the puppet governments in this region. As a result they were continuously supporting some heartless tyrants such as Mr Gaddafi of Libya, Mr Mubarak of Egypt, Mr Bashar of Syria and Mr Saleh of Yemen for the sake of their own benefits while they were also publicly crying for democracy.

But citizen of those countries have been suffered a lot, there were no freedom of speech, no human right, no justice apart from a handful people had been enjoying the power and welfares. It has been started in Yemen while the deprived citizen occupied streets and became united for their rights. Lastly, Mr Saleh left the country in January 2012 to his ultimate destination America and escaped trial after almost 33 years of power. Demonstrators wanted Mr Saleh to be brought to justice for offences, they say he committed, including the brutal suppression of a year-long uprising that left hundreds dead, according to BBC.

In the following month Mr Mubarak step down after 30 years of power due to huge protests in Tahrir Square for 18 days and estimated 300 civilians died in this conflict. This was one of the major events as Egypt is one of the important countries for west due to political and regional power.

But Mr Bashar  allies with Russia as well as his well decorated army has given him long time to stay in power since the protest has been started while more than 60,000 civilians had been killed.   Although Syrian people have not reached their long waited goal, they have achieved a significant improvement bartering massive blood of them.

This vast power change in the Middle East region encourages others in Asia. As the technological advancement has connected one another for 24/7, people can easily organize through social networking that played a vital role in all those revolution.

In the last week, few bloggers and Facebook activist networks of Bangladesh felt an urgency to start a demonstration at Shahbagh Square, Dhaka because of an announcement of insufficient sentence for a war criminal who leaded to kill hundreds of people in the liberation war in 1971. These war criminals had been banned in Bangladeshi politics after the independence of the nation but later on there were a lot of ups and downs in Bangladeshi politics, there were an army coup killed the president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family who were at home at that time. The scenario changed and the war criminals came close to the authority and established political party again called “Jamat E Islam”.  These war criminals have been escaping any type of punishment since the liberation war because of political instability of the country but this kind of avoidance of punishment is unusual in world history. When the existing government came into power, they had an election manifesto to bring the war criminals into justice. Recently the problem occurred when capital punishment did not declare to one of the specified war criminals. As the next election due in the end of current year as well as government is going through some difficult times for corruption in the top level of power, main opposition party kept themselves silent in the war criminal issue due to the alliances with Jamat e Islam. Whatever the political equation at this point of Bangladesh, people have got the spirit to showdown to the nation that they are united when crisis comes.

Although the goal is different from Tahrir Square; the inspiration and process of demonstration are indifferent so that Students and youths, politicians and activists, young, old and professionals of different arenas joined on Friday demonstration when Shahbagh Square turned into human sea. Now, everybody across the country is participating and looking forward for justice as “capital punishment of all specified war criminals is the only demand”.

Winner Gains more Money in Recession

Money: Courtesy to Goggle Image

As we all know company and the owner are different entities in business by the common law of the world business. By implementing this law, who is gaining? This writing is about focusing on the owner or shareholders of the company who enjoys or suffers the profits or losses of the business. In the naked eyes, directors or shareholders can happily escape the consequences of the deceived operations in their action with having the profits/benefits of their good time or may suffer the opposite which is highly unlikely. The ultimate sufferers are the end users.

What is the actual reason behind the on-going recession in the world? The very simple answer is ‘sub-prime debt’. In other words, some people, who are normally not eligible to get a loan, were intentionally invited or qualified to have it at highest rate of interest. And the further story we all know as we people are facing the consequences of some greedy stakeholder’s activities.  The further question is, did they know what they were doing and what will be the end point? All financial institutions knew that they are going through some unethical activities as the competition is very high in the market and the law of the land ensures that central bank will intervene at some point while they are having the cream of it.

Central banks around Europe and America have poured trillions of dollars into economy but did they punish people who had done unethical activities? No, because they are happily escaped by the business law that is corporation is responsible for that, not the person. Do we not need to think about the next bust in economy that will happen sooner or later? Or we will just label it as another economic cycle of growth-boom and then bust.

Aftermath scenario, some top bosses lost their job but they still got the hefty amount of money based on their contract. Recession is very fruitful to some opportunist business men as they take it as an exit strategy and move on to new or wait for another good time. From my personal point of view, recession brings the best important opportunity to exploit employees. Employees of any organization are more vulnerable position today than they were in few years back. Their mouth is sealed with glue, no salary increase, no problem, no holidays, no problem, and more working hours, no problem. For any new employment is the further chance for the employer as if they say, not exact contract, no problem, low salary structure, no problem, less facilities, no problem. People have families to feed, pay the rent or mortgage, anxiety all around. The only hope, I have job at least. So the winners are still winning.

Finally what are they doing with their gains as they got the cream in good time as well as in the recession? Why they are not investing into new business if it is beneficial for them? They are the opportunist as the anxiety all around the global economy and governments around the globe are struggling, antiques market is booming. Can you imagine that Sotheby’s and Christie’s are breaking records one after another in the time of recession?

Fear of God

If you believe in God the world is full of God’s creature, but if you do not believe in God, you will find everything is Godless. Recently I have read a poem, of Robert Frost named Fear of God, is very interesting. So I have decided to publish this poem as my first ever blog. But do not be hopeless as my own writings are coming soon.

Fear of God

by Robert Frost

If you should rise from Nowhere up to Somewhere,

From being No one up to being Someone,

Be sure to keep repeating to yourself

You owe it to an arbitrary God

Whose mercy to you rather than to others

Won’t bear to critical examination.

Stay unassuming. If for lack of license

To wear the uniform of who you are,

You should be tempted to make up for it

In a subordinating look or toe,

Beware of coming too much to the surface

And using for apparel what was meant

To be the curtain of the inmost soul.
